Going to bed somewhere outside Salem MA

After a busy day of packing and preparing the van for the journey, we finally got on the road. After a short delay due to some last minute repairs, we finally got the van ready around 3 pm. Finished saying our good byes to friends and family, and even got a waving off party by the ladies at the credit union.

Made a quick stop at Cabela's and spent a 25 dollar gift card on a few more supplies and then got back on the road. While crossing the Maine/NH bridge we enjoyed a beautiful full moon over the river. My cold has gotten the best of me so we are bunkered down in a Walmart parking lot...which apparently closes at 10...

Pictures of our setup to come tomorrow!

Last night at home

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we ship off to tour the country. Thanks to a lot of help from a couple of good friends the 1985 Volkswagen Vanagon is ready to go...couldn't have done it without them. Finishing up the final touches on the van tomorrow, finishing packing, saying our goodbyes and heading west. Don't know a route yet, we have a lot of places we want to see. We've got a map and a GPS and we are just winging it.

It's amazing, almost every one of our friends, and especially family, have contributed in some way to making this trip possible; some slipped us money, others sewed curtains, others helped us plan, others gave us advice. (not sure if I used that semi-colon back there correctly....Val a little help here?)

Thanks for all the support from everybody, we will miss you all for the next six weeks and we couldn't have done this with out you. Hope that every one follows the blog, there will be pictures and stories. Be sure to comment. This is gonna be the trip of a lifetime.
